A statement from @BarbicanTheatre CEO Sheila Snellgrove – COVID 19 (coronavirus)

Barbican Theatre

In light of the UK Government briefing on Monday 16 March, Barbican Theatre, Plymouth has suspended all public performances and training activities with our Barbican Theatre Performance Training, FUSE Diverse Dance, and Thrive until further notice, in order to avoid contributing to the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus).

As the public has been advised by the UK Government to self isolate and avoid clubs, pubs and theatres, we want to do everything in our power to act responsibly. Therefore we will close our doors as of Tuesday 17 March, for 1 month in the first instance. We will be contacting affected ticket-holders and training participants shortly and apologise for any disappointment that the cancellation of shows and training may cause. We are looking at innovative ways that will allow us to keep engaging with our community – so please follow our social media channels:

We are determined to survive, to retain our dedicated team (including a number of freelance artists and crew who rely on us for income), and to get our performances, artistic work and training classes back on track as soon as possible. You can help us by making a donation to the Barbican Theatre registered charity. Any donation – large or small – will ensure that our theatre continues to thrive long after this crisis has passed.
