Where did you get the idea to literally launch your new album, False Alarm, into space?

I think it was a very off the cuff suggestion from someone and I guess the thought process was, “Why not?”

Which new songs are you most excited to play live?

We’ve been playing the singles for a while so we’re especially excited to get into the deeper album cuts like Satisfaction Guaranteed.

You’ve turned dark themes into very upbeat songs. Tell us about the writing process behind that juxtaposition.

Musically we’re always drawn to upbeat rhythms and we enjoy the sort of jarring discomfort of combining that with darker subject matter

Where did you get the idea for the ‘Once’ music video?

That was very much the idea of the directors, Matty and Fran. They said, puppets, cheesy tv host and dancing. Of course we said yes!

Tell us about the look that has come with this album era.

It’s a lot brighter than anything we’ve done before. There’s lots of bright blue and bright red. There’s a retro future look to everything.

Which other artists are you listening to at the moment?

It’s great to have Bombay Bicycle Club back! I’m loving Pillow Queens, Boy Azooga, Slow Thai, Bon Iver at the moment to  name a few.

How has Glastonbury and the festival season prepared you for your huge upcoming tour?

It’s certainly made us raring to go for our own shows! We love playing festivals and we had some great moments this year, but nothing compares to filling a room with your own fans and putting on a rock show.

After having toured for 12 years, what’s your fondest memory on the road?

The last UK tour we did in 2017 was honestly some of the craziest shows we’ve ever done. So we can’t wait to get on the road in October.

What are you most looking forward to about this tour?

Mainly getting back to some places we haven’t been in a few years. It’s felt like a lifetime.

False Alarm has been described as your most experimental album yet. How will the live shows reflect this?

It’s a great mix of everything. We make the show feel like we’re showcasing where we’re at musically at the moment but at the same time we make sure there’s an overriding showcasing of our whole career.

Message for the fans

Just a big thank you really. Playing shows and creating memories with you guys is honestly the best thing in the world. We’ve missed you and we can’t wait to see you in October.
