The Duke of Cornwall Hotel: Victorian grandeur meets modern comfort @TheDukePlymouth

Published by .

The magnificent Victorian architecture of the Duke of Cornwall Hotel makes it one of Plymouth’s most treasured buildings. Built as the citys first luxury hotel in 1863, the Duke has been lovingly preserved and enhanced so that it can be enjoyed by guests coming to stay, dine or celebrate.

The hotel’s 72 rooms are all individually designed with thoughtfully-selected designer wallpapers and vintage furniture, creating a chic look that does justice to the building’s striking architecture. With a range of bedroom sizes and styles available, from comfortable en-suites to indulgently romantic four-poster rooms, there’s accommodation to suit everyone.

Added Luxury

Ornate carved wooden four-poster beds are the striking centrepiece of our magnificent luxury rooms. Selected bedrooms from this range also offer the added comfort of a separate lounge area. The generous space and exquisite style and luxury of these rooms make them ideal as bridal suites. For an additional fee, we can lay on flowers, champagne and chocolates – an extra extravagance for a wedding night or simply as a special treat. In our Reynolds Suite, you can even enjoy exclusive use of the Duke’s iconic tower, with its 360-degree views over the sea and the rolling countryside of Devon and Cornwall.

Gastronomic excellence

The Duke’s luxury extends to its impressive culinary offerings with its restaurant having been recognised, recently, with a second AA Rosette for its fine dining restaurant.

With a growing reputation in the south-west, main courses include dishes such as stone bass with local mussels, smoked bacon, sweetcorn chowder and Maris Piper mash. Among the starters available, diners can find chicken liver parfait, rhubarb and date chutney and toasted brioche. Desserts are a similarly tantalising prospect, one example being a dish of apricots and almond sponge, featuring apricot gel, almond praline and stem ginger ice cream.

If you prefer something less formal, The Lounge is a welcoming space to enjoy a light meal or a drink with friends. Choose from our delicious range of lunch items and your favourite tipple from our well-stocked bar.
